This mighty early Gothic castle was built by the powerful family of Ronovec. Within their period the center of the cylindrical tower was created. This tower, until today, dominates the whole structure. In 1278 the Frýdlant castle was passed over to the nobility of Biberštejn, who extended it to other buildings. The shape of the exterior was substantially changed by the Renaissance, particularly in the second half of the 16th century when the Italian architect Marco Spazio built a one-story manor with Renaissance gables and graffiti decorated facades under the castle. The exterior of the standing buildings must have been adapted to the new style of architecture.
After the "e;battle of White Mountain"e; (1620) the estate was obtained by Albrecht of Valdštejn. After his assassination the manor was obtained by Matyáš Gallas, the commander in chief of the imperial army. After fires in the manor, an early Baroque reconstruction took place. The historical construction interventions started to be projected into the architecture of the castle and the manor in the 19th century. What is really remarkable is that the collections in the castle were openly accessible to the public as early as 1801.

The manor of Sychrov in the northeastern part of Bohemia belongs to our most important manor buildings in historic style. The originally Baroque manor from 1690 - 1693 was built for the knight Lamotte from Frintropp. The barons of Rohan bought the manor from the Waldsteins in 1820. The Duke Karel Alain G. Rohan had the former Baroque building increased at one floor soon afterwards and initiated further extensions. The most radical changes took place under Kamil Josef I. Rohan during 1847 - 1862 when the manor acquired its original pseudo-Gothic style. The work was directed especially by Josef Provot who continued in the architectonic designs of his predecessor B. Grueber.

From the original Medieval castle only the cylindrical tower has been preserved until today. However, the regular character of the manor edifices bears witness to the fact that they may belong to the newly erected buildings originating from the end of the 16th century. A considerable early Baroque modification, which gave the construction its present appearance, occurred after 1660 under the direction of Jan R. Breda and his successor Kryštof. the most famous occupier of Lemberk, in the 13th century, was Zdislava, the wife of the castle founder, becoming famous within her short life through both her merciful deeds and talent to miraculously heal. In 1995 she was canonized by Pope Jan Pavel II.
