Liberec and surrounding country

Town Liberec is situated in an attractive area surrounded by the greenery of the Jizera Mountains and the Lužické Mountains. Liberec was first mentioned in 1352, later it changed into a feudal town. The most important changes proceeded in the second half of the 18th century. At that time, the centre of Liberec consisted of brick houses in the classical style.

Nowadays, Liberec offers many interesting sights – Town hall, Theatre of F. X. Šalda, North Bohemian Museum, Town gallery and other interesting buildings. The most known entertainment center is Babylon, with its Aquapark and other activities.

The dominating feature of Liberec is the mountain Ještěd (1,012 m) with a cableway and a mountain hotel that serves as a transmitter facility as well. The surroundings of Liberec offers a wide range of opportunities for summer and winter sport activities. There are downhill courses, ski lifts and ski jumps on the slopes of Ještěd, the Jizera Mountains offer ideal conditions for cross-country skiing and tourism.
